Painting to Celebrate the spirit of the land
“My painting is an expression of my love of the land here in West Penwith , my connection with the beauty and power of the landscape. Building up layers of paint is like feeling for the substance of visual reality, layer upon layer of depth from solid shadow through to refracted light and surface shine. Beyond that, I also try to express the magic or earth energy, the essence, or resonance of a place, a stone, a tree. I look for the symmetries & similarities of patterns, the inherent fractals of growth and movement, and emphasise these. For the paintings to have a strong visual, emotional and spiritual impact, I paint with meticulous detail and in a heightened and intensified manner". Sarah Vivian
Sarah is an artist who, as well as loving the land also loves the materials she uses in capturing its spirit in her compositions, she says: ‘Building up layers of paint, of textural brush marks with translucent glazes over, is like feeling for the substance of visual reality: layer upon layer of depth, from solid shadow to refracted light and surface shine. Beyond that, I try to reach for the magical energy, the essence and resonance of a place, a stone or a tree.’ Happy paintings that vibrate with her passion for Penwith, that could be described as ‘Druidic, Shamanic, or Magical responses to nature’, permeated with much of the peace and perfection she finds in her white and light studio – excerpt From 'The Cornishman' newspaper by Frank Ruhrmund For more info visit Sarah's Cornish Art Website
