Sunset at Botallack West Cornwall. We were on our way to 'The Queens Arms' for a meal (highly recommended) and had got there a little early and so walked around to the coastal path just as the sun was dropping behind the horizon. This whole area is a wonderful area to visit. Phil

Penzance Inner Harbour - late afternoon Winter : Penzance is an authentic Cornish working Port. Penzance sometimes gets a bad press but for me it is the real Cornwall, it is also my hometown. Phil

Broken Fence near Cudden Point. Taken late afternoon in January, walked for about 6 miles and saw no one. The landscape of Kernow is very special at anytime but we love this particular time of year. Phil

Beach near Durgen and Trebah Gardens. You can see the clouds were about to unleash yet another few inches of rain. I felt the rocks looked like Viking invaders that had been turned to stone. Phil

Wheal Coates Tin Mine St Agnes at Sunset - Taken from a forthcoming feature on Wheal Coates. I find Cornish Mining sites some of the most inspiring to photograph. There is an intimate relationship between the memories of the brave Cornish men and women who worked in these remarkable locations and the way nature is slowly reclaiming them. Phil

Porthcurno Beach is mine. A young seagull eyes up Porthcurno, no other humans here on this day. The steep incline of the beach means that the waves can be very big and take you off guard if your not paying attention. Phil

Looking back from Carn Galva to Carn Galva Tin Mine - Actually I am about half way up the hillside here so the views are even better further up. So why aren't any pictures from further up featured?. This picture was taken in November moments later the dark cloud to the left of the image emptied itself over my position...end of pictures! Phil

St Nectans Kieve - This magical waterfall at the top of Rock Valley is one of the few places where it possible believe completely in the legend of King Arthur. Legend has it that the Knights met here to discuss the Quest for the Grail. You feel as you have just missed them! The atmosphere here is awe inspiring, the feeling that you are not alone is tangible. It is also quite a difficult place to photograph, using a flash generates lots of orbs which some see as spirits, without flash the images are dark. This shot was taken with an ISO setting of 3000, I know insane! Phil NB: A gallery dedicated to this area is being prepared.
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5] - should be a 6!
Between worlds West Cornwall - Yes I know I am being vague here, the location is to the left of Perranuthnoe Beach over a couple of almost hidden coves. Only really accessible at low tide this is a place where there are never really any other footprints apart from you own. You feel you are looking out over a landscape that has not changes through millennia and you can feel the dreams of all those who have stood here before you. Bliss Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
The Ballowall Barrow Chamber Tomb St Just West Cornwall - 1 mile out of St Just and an easy walk and right next to the small road to Carn Gloose. This superb monument looks out over the sea towards Cape Cornwall and Cot Valley. The air here is pure and full of energy. A place to reflect on the past and future. Every step in this area is steeped in Cornish History but with a real sense of the natural landscape being a constant in that history. Phil

Cave at Piskey Cove near Prussia Cove Cornwall. Taken from the foot of Little Cudden, which is quite a safe location once you get to it. Piskey Cove is just around the headland from Prussia Cove. Many of you know that this particular area of Cornwall is a personal favourite of ours. When the tide is out this cave can be approached over the rocks but care should be taken as the tide can easily cut you off here, as yes the sea really is that colour. Thanks Phil

Looking Towards Cot Valley from Carn Gloose near St Just. For visitors to West Cornwall, it is easy to drive through St Just or stop off for supplies without realising the wealth of stunning walks there are in this area. Again and again we come back to this stretch of coastline and the changing seasons offer so much more to see. There is magic in the air here and at the same time Cornish industrial heritage is all around to see. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
St Ives - A place that does not feature as often as it should on genius loci. This was taken towards the end of September during the St Ives Festival Week. It might look quiet here but the town was very busy. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Wheal Peevor - taken from a new gallery all about this important Cornish Heritage site - click here to view [Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Porthtowan Beach - Not featured enough on this website so expect to see some more pics over the next few days. When the tide is out this is an incredible stretch of beach. To the left you can see Portreath and the right St Agnes with Wheal Coates on the cliff top. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Restormel Castle Lostwithiel - Although a small castle is has plenty of atmosphere and is in a spectacular spot. You can always pop into Lostwithiel for a cream tea afterwards! Phil

Clouds over Mounts Bay Marazion. Late afternoon, sudden flurry of dark clouds although it did not rain. Marazion Beach is very accessible with car parking almost level with the beach.
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Mullian Cove Cliffs Cornwall - To the left of this position is the famous view across the harbour. I really liked the bright colours of the firedrakes and the contrast of the sea. To the right of this position is the Mullion Cove Hotel who do a rather excellent hot chocolate or pint of Doombar if your not driving. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Chun Quoit West Cornwall - Two studies of this wonderful ancient site. Both taken on the same day. The one above was taken lying down to take in the sky. The shot below was taken from a higher point to take in the sea. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Chun Quoit West Cornwall - Take the A30 out of Penzance and turn right towards Pendeen, there is a small parking place opposite Kenidjack (The Hooting Carn). You can just see Chun Quoit in the distance. Sitting in a nature reserve this whole area is full of wonderful references to Cornwall's Ancient past. Close by is Chun Castle. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Porthcurno Beach at High Tide Cornwall - This is a very spectacular place to capture the ocean in full flight. Especially true when the tide is reaching its highest point. If you are new to Porthcurno Beach position yourself towards the left hand side of the beach and be prepared to move quickly. At high tide the sea is very rough due to the incline on the beach so respect the red flags which usually fly at high tide. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Footpath near Cape Cornwall - Obviously taken before the weather turned! Footpaths are a wonderful subject and the viewer is always left wondering.....Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Storm Clouds over Loe Bar - Our knack for choosing walk around Loe Bar and been caught in a thunderous shower must be un-equalled! A fantastic walk but if it rains at this point there is no where to hide. Also the sea here is very rough and dangerous. The incline from the beach into the sea is dip so be careful if you have small children with you. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Looking towards Long Ships Lighthouse from the Sennen to Lands End Coastal Path. Very easy and inspiring walk this. At either end you have access to Cream Teas and a pint of real ale. The best way to approach Lands End is from this coastal path, park at Sennen. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Sea Gull over St Michaels Mount. Taken at 9pm in the evening so the ISO setting was very high on the Canon 50D. Although there is a bit of noise on the photo I still think its quite dramatic. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Another view of Cudden Point, taken beneath the cliffs, just out of sight were 10+ Basking Sharks, it was just starting to rain. This is a wonderful spot a truly wonderful walk with a great Ice Cream at the end of it at Perranuthnoe Beach Cafe. [Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Cape Cornwall Low Tide - This shot is taken at the bottom of the slipway on the right hand side of Cape Cornwall. Most people once they park in the National Trust Car Park go down to Priests Cove which is on the left of the cape. This shot taken at low tide looks towards Kendijack valley and although the car park was packed I was the human being down on this side. Very peaceful. Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Helford River Lagoon - What a beautiful spot!. Park at Helford and take the the coastal path to St Anthony. There are lots of little lagoons like this one where you can site and watch the boats. On the other side of the river is the Ferryboat Inn and Trebah Gardens and Durgan. There is a nice little tea room cafe at Helford now as well. Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
View towards Kenneggy Sands Beach - The beach itself is right in the distance. I took this shot from the end of Cudden Point. Usually the wind and sea are quite rough here so climbing this far of the humps not something I would normally do. However on this day the sea was like a lake and there was no breeze at all. Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Looking towards St Michaels Mount from Cudden Point - Taken at the base of the cliffs at high tide. There is a almost hidden foot path just before the national trust sign which lets you get right down to the sea. On a day like this with the sea very calm it is very meditative. Usually the sea is quite rough here so be careful if going down in less tranquil conditions. Phil (full gallery on Cudden coming soon)

Perranuthnoe Beach looking towards Cudden Point - Taken in the evening (7.40pm) June 2nd. The Sun was going down behind St Michaels Mount. Perranuthnoe Beach is huge when the tide is out and there are many rock pools full of fish for the kids to catch. It is also a great place to swim, especially when the tide is coming in across the warm sand. When it is high tide the beach practically disappears so try to go at low tide. There is also a nice beach cafe and art centre nearby. Phil

Newlyn later afternoon - click image to enlarge. Taken from the old Quay, slightly away from the working port, the old Quay is a collection of boats that stay on the sea bed regardless of the tide and lost engine parts. However there is a romance and desire for fish and chips that is quite tangible. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Lone Boot at Nanjulian Valley - Seeing an odd shoe on the motorway is fairly common, the equivalent in Cornwall is the lone Fishermans boot. The last one we found was near Hayle (see gallery 7) Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Kynance Cove Cliffs - Tide was just coming in so there was a little of the elusive part of the beach visible. You can see Lizard Point in the background. Hottest day of the year I think (Sunday 24th May) Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Newlyn Harbour late afternoon - The water looks like a mirror as it reflects the masts of the yachts and boats. Taken from the old Quay, great spot for pictures. Phil

Blue Bell Woods Godolphin House near Helston Cornwall - The best Blue Bell Woods (our opinion) are in the walk down to St Loys Cove, however how magical is this!. Taken at the recent Godolphin Food Fair where we had a curry from the little Cornish Curry Company which was also fab. Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 3/5]
Polzeath Sheep begin road safety lessons - look left...Another shot taken near Polzeath, cute animal shot of the week! Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Sea Pinks at Polzeath Cliffs North Cornwall - looked like it was going to rain, but actually the sun came out once I got around the headland. This is the coastal path on the right hand side of the beach. Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Pot of Gold tracked down to St Michaels Mount - Taken on the way back from Morrison's in Penzance, proof you should always have your camera with you. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
St Loys Cove - Taken at high tide and with a slight drizzle in the air. A favorite place of ours although the tea room has now closed. Fantastic woodland walk to get here through the blue bells in May. Phil [Genius Loci Location Rating 4/5]
Porthcurno from Treen Cliffs - A return to one of our favourite coastal walks in Cornwall. Park at Treen and walk towards Porthcurno. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 5/5]
Swan at Mylor Bridge. I really like taking pictures of old boats and this one at Mylor had a beautiful swan making a nest just next to it. Phil
[Genius Loci Location Rating 3/5]
More rock pool reflections. This was taken near Newquay and I like the way it looks like a painting especially as the sun dances on the surface. Phil
