Born in 1946, David spent his childhood and adolescence in the suburbs of north-west London, where his external environment was as influential to his later artistic development as was Shoreham for Samuel Palmer and Cookham for Stanley Spencer. Impressions and feelings experienced during his suburban wanderings inspired many pencil drawings and led him to teach himself to paint. His early influences included the painters Caspar David Friedrich and Giorgio de Chirico. He lived and worked in Hertfordshire from 1969 to 2002 when he relocated to Cornwall. Since 1967, David has taken part in over eighty solo, group and mixed exhibitions in Britain and abroad, and from 1975 his work has been exhibited regularly at London’s Portal Gallery (www.portal-gallery.com) where he has held eight one-man shows. |
Over four hundred of his meticulous acrylic paintings are in private collections worldwide. His work has been reviewed and reproduced in many newspapers, magazines and books, and has been featured on BBC TV.
During the past four years, David’s
explorations of the timeless landscape and enigmatic antiquities of West
Penwith have led him to produce a series of pictures, each of which depicts
a specific aspect of this enchanted land.
