The Genius Loci Location Rating System
This website 'Genius Loci' was founded in 1999 after Sue Aston wrote her first album Sacred Landscapes. Such was the pull and power of some of the locations that inspired the music and photography that a whole business has grown up around it.
There are obviously places around the world that touch people in a a special way, however our love is for the landscape of Cornwall.
We have awarded locations a maximum of 5 points, where 5 is the maximum and 1 the minimum. If you approach the locations with an open heart and still mind you too will feel a deep connection with this land and its history. If your mind is distracted by mobile phones, thoughts or work or being somewhere else you will miss the magic completely.
We have also awarded the location points system to accommodation providers, this relates to the location of the property not to the quality of the accommodation as this is governed by the tourism awards scheme.

The more of these elements a location has the more points we have awarded, with 5 our maximum. This is a subjective system based on our thoughts and experiences. It is hopefully a guide for those of you looking for the real Cornwall or a way of connecting with the landscape on a deeper level. You will start to see the ratings being rolled out next to all our photographs in the next few weeks.
FAQ - Why are there are so few 1/5 or 2/5?
Because we only feature the best locations in Cornwall (there are not many bad ones actually!) our points system leans towards the top end. We are simply drawn towards places that we know have many of the key elements.
