I live in Cornwall and spend time walking to ancient sacred sites in all sorts of weather, quite a lot of it involving horizontal rain, but also on bright days. This makes for an appreciation of the atmosphere of these places.
On this CD Sue Aston has created instrumental music that captures the intense flavour of many of Cornwall's fascinating sacred sites. She says "The inspiration behind this music is to hopefully portray the spirit of tranquility and the wild nature that is the Cornish landscape". I feel she has captured the sense of calm power at many of my favourite spots including Tintagel, Rocky Valley, The Gump, Dozmary Pool, Roche Rock, Madron, Sancreed and Alsia holy wells.
The only place portrayed that I don't know is Warleggan Church, famous for a very eccentric vicar, but I have heard the hummadruz (the singing) at other sacred sites. Sue's evocative violin playing with help from husband Phil and friends, including Gordon Giltrap on a couple of tracks, will take you on a charming dreamy visit to Cornwall's sacred landscapes.
Sue has included tracks such as Beltane Fantasy, a Celtic stomp with fiery violins, and Pagan Celebration, with a gypsy feel to it.
This is an excellent CD which also supports the ASLaN charter, which I shall be playing a lot. Andy Norfolk [Pagan Dawn]
