MAPSEEKER - GENEALOGY  www.mapseeker.co.uk
The more you find out about where your ancestors lived, the more fulfilling your research will be, and the easier it will become to work out the answer to that all-important question - "Where did they come from?"
The function of maps in genealogy is two fold. Most records are arranged geographically, so it is important to know where your ancestors lived and what villages and towns were nearby. They are also a fabulous way of bringing your family history to life, helping you get an insight into the places where your ancestors lived and what those places were like at the time.

By examining the many county maps, town plans and borough surveys from around the British Isles in which your ancestors lived you can gain that insight. You can trace forward over hundreds of years and see how towns and cities grew from villages. Where roads, canals, railways and bridges were constructed, estates were enclosed and forests diminished. You can locate churches where your ancestors were christened and married, schools they attended when they were young, parks and other amenities they enjoyed many years ago, some long since gone, or still present?

Many of our ancestors made the choice to embark on new lives elsewhere, some had no choice, emigration and immigration has gone on throughout the history of the World. From the many historic maps from around the World, you can discover the lay of the land where your ancestors first stepped foot and continued family lines. Some of these are the most fascinating and attractive maps ever produced, a treasure trove of resource.
As time goes on we will continue to make available detailed access to our maps plans and surveys through either our on-line 19th century street atlas or our historical atlases.
Our high- resolution image access software will enable you to drill down through all areas of the map plan or survey, adding a new pictorial dimension at your fingertips.
In addition the 19th century atlas enables searches by street name or place name and also lists all streets and places on each low level segment.

Whether you are researching your family history, the history of your locality, or just love old maps, the mapseeker collection of maps plans and surveys are available to order on-line and make excellent, often thought provoking gifts for any occasion.
