What our visitors say about us!

Hi, I'm an art student currently working on a project based around the sea, and
the Cornish seasapes are for me by far the most inspiring and magical to work
from. As I am not currently able to get down to Cornwall, I wanted to thank you
for the amazing photos on your website which have really helped to fuel my
imagination, and from which I hope to be create some interesting work.
Its fantastic to see websites promoting the beauty of nature as well as the work
of artists and craftspeople. All the best,
Jonny Turner
Can I just say how brilliant your website is, there is so much on there and it
is a beautiful tribute to such a gorgeous place.

This site is so incredibly beautiful and peaceful. Every time I visit the site I
am uplifted and relaxed knowing places like this do actually exist. The pictures
are amazing, as is Sue Aston's music. Your site is one of my top 3 bookmarks and
I return to it constantly.
Thank you for your wonderful gift of spirit.

God bless your website! I am one of the many violin and music educators in this
wide world. I am 21 years old and i want to know more about how to effectively
facilitate knowledge about this field and your site is a great help to me.
Thanks Ms Sue. God bless you more!!!

Thank you for providing this richly informative web site. I applaud you for your
fine advice on the subject of maintaining composure in public performance.
As a performer and teacher, I too am most interested in this subject. I have an
article posted on my web site which may be of interest. It is called:

Wonderful pictures of Cornwall. There is much evidence that the Arthurian reign
and activities took place almost entirely within Wales "the land of the
Britons". Southwest England was the source of the Saxons against which Arthur
was in almost continual conflict. Very nice site.

Hi, I have always loved Cornwall and the photographs are superb, keep up the

I think the diversity of the people and subjects you present makes Cornwall very
enticing to someone who has never visited before. A note to your Webmaster: A
single color background would make the text easier to read.

It has been two years since we've been to Cornwall for our holidays but it is
still our best holidays ever. We enjoyed the landscape, the seas and our search
for Arthur. And when anyone ever sees them: please bring our greetings to Mr.

pleasure to be.We'll be back,

Hi! What a great site! I see I'm not the first Exeter University student to sign
this guestbook. Anyway, I was looking for some photos of Cornwall to show my
university friends who are coming down to visit in the summer, and I ended up
here. Everyone agreed that Cornwall is a really beautiful place (which is why I
come home every weekend!). Thanks for such an informative and well-contructed
site! Kernow is the only place to be!

What a great site! I am a Cornishwoman who has lived in one mining town after
another in three continents over the past 20 years. After reading your guest
book and the comments of those Cornish men and woman who are missing "home", I'd
just like to say take heart, you can take a Cornishman out of Cornwall, but you
can NEVER take Cornwall out of a Cornishman. I return to visit family and
friends whenever time and money permit (not as often as I would wish). Having
soothed the soul and refreshed body and mind I leave for the next adventure in
the sure and certain knowledge that Cornwall will call me home again. Lin Dunn

I'm a player/teacher out here in the Up-State area. Happy to see you promoting
good playing. Keep up the fine work that you do. I play many types of music on
violin and other string instruments. I compose as well and love to learn new
tunes. Do you have any interesting resources for violin music other than Irish
or the well publicized folk tunes? Thank you for your time

The first site that moved me to tears. Reading your text and viewing the art and
the music made me feel as though I had come home. Sacred landscape and spirit of
the land has been with me since a young child yet only able to articulate
lately. As a garden designer and labyrinth builder I look forward to my second
visit to the Cornish Coast this May as I see Rocky Valley, Tintagel, Merlin's
Cave and Boscastle for the first time! Keep up your good work! Pamela Sheldon

Hello, We found your site most interesting. It is our belief Roche Rock is named
after a de la Roche who came across from France with Norman The Conqueror and we
believe that he changed his name to Tregarrick. Would anyone be able to verify
this or indeed give us any history associated with the de la Roche family in the
Cornwall region. There are only four de la Roche families living in New Zealand.
We would appreciate your help. Thank you. Regards

Thank you very much for this website. I stumbled upon it by chance when I
started surfing on the net looking for Celtic music. Thanks Sue for all the
wonderful tips. I am a violin player and teacher myself and was so thrilled to
read your tips and to find that I have actually incorporated these myself
already. I recently started lessons again after many years (violin was my second
instrument) but now as an Honours subject at the University of Pretoria. My
lecturer is Prof Zanta Hofmeyr. Perhaps you have heard of her. Previously I took
lessons with Prof Alan Solomon. He emigrated to America last year. I mainly play
in a gospel band at my church and find the improvisation very stimulating. My
son also plays the violin and now prepares for Gr 5 Royal Schools exam. He is
extremely talented and very keen to improvise. We have a CD of River Dance's
music and he constantly tries to figure out the folkmusic tunes. Could you
perhaps give us any suggestions as to how we can improvise ourselves in the
Celtic style. Is there a specific method or scale pattern. I've tried to figure
it out just by listening but haven't had enough time to actually write it down.
I do recognise certain patterns that are repeated over and over again, but I
realise that there could be millions of these kind of patterns. I would really
appreciate your insight in this as I would like to start incorporating it into
gospel music. There is a great interest in this style all over and people
constantly ask me to play in this style and then I feel awkward. I've also done
some work for artists on CD and just love it. Now that I'm able to conquer some
of my technical difficulties I've always had, it becomes such a joy to play the
violin! I share your sentiments for the instrument and music in particular. I am
also part of a research team that are currently looking into setting up unit
standards for musics in South Africa - a very controversial issue since our
previous curricula only contained standards for Western Art Music - not that
that is a problem!
m, but we now need to incorporate all these wonderful folk and indigenous musics
of our continent. We just appointed a wonderful man from Nigeria who is a
drumming expert and he is now looking at setting up a BMus for African music. We
live in exciting times and if he is able to pull this off, I'm sure we will be
well on the way of solving some other problems as well!
There, I've told you in nutshell who I am and what I do. I would love to hear
from you.

Dear Sue, After reading your letter and the other Sue's on Connie's Violinring I
made my way over to your place. This is a very nice peaceful and serene web
site. It looks wonderful tell Phil and the photographs just magic. They are in
my opinion of a very high standard and as an ex-professional photographer I know
what is good.
But as I am sure you must know I am a Violin Historian. Your playing
demonstrated the real violin sound and is both mystical and ethereal which suits
the music ideally. I would be interested to know what violin you play on. I feel
that the violin is quite modern but not without the Cremonese sound.
Warmest regards.

over here who would love your music as much as I do. I would also like to see
you sell sheet music for some of your songs. You are very good, and I think more
people should know about you and the music you play. I plan on spreading the
word about the songs you play and how good they are!

It seems that violin teachers are yet to discover the www to spread their ideas.
I use folk music in my teaching. A short fun tune can be better value than a
long one, and the folk scales offer so much. I also teach in a "remote" area, of
Tasmania, and have Cornish ancestors.

Being transported to times and places filled with mystical, beautiful images.

Hello...your site is wonderful. I am a Cornishman in Australia! I was born in
Redruth and my first site of the world was of Carn Brae. I am into Yoga and have
interests in Reiki and aromatherapy.
Keep up the good work, (can you post any photos of Carn Brae to your site? Peace
and light...

Dear Sue,
What an unexpected and welcome delight to see the picture of you and your violin
on your home page!!
I was completely charmed! My ancestors left Cornwall sometime around 1630; when
I visited in 1995, Bodmin
Moor had a wondrous attraction for me...I should have stopped and played my
fiddle for an hour or two in
such a magic place. Peace be upon your house

I have enjoyed viewing your website, after recently spending some time at the
stone circle at Glastonbury i am interested in the similar sites found in
Cornwall. I also have an interest in reiki and meditation and so i found your
site to be most informative. thank you for your time.

Hello Sue and Phil, I have just finished listening to your lovely music. It
truly portrays some of the spirit and essence of beautiful Kernow, at least for
me it did. I've enjoyed your site very much and will continue to visit often. I
lived in Cornwall for over three years, 90-93, and just fell in love with the
place. I hope to live there again, if and when the universe allows. I am a Reiki
practitioner also and will have my Reiki lll and Masters in October.
You asked what we would like to see more of - anything Cornish please: images,
music, current affairs and maybe a message board so that us "foreigners" can
chat with Cornish locals!
Talk to you again, and I definitely will buy your CD sometime.
