Sarah Vivian Cornwall Artist
Cards, Prints and Original paintings
'There is a nobility in her exaggerated, almost ethereal, compositions which, with her ‘extreme detail and study of outdoor motives on the spot’, brings to mind the works of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood' Frank Ruhrmund 'The Cornishman'
LATEST EXHIBITION
“Earth Magic” with Izumi Omori at Morvah Schoolhouse Gallery. 5th April to 18th
April.
“My painting is an expression of my love of the land here in West Penwith , my connection with the beauty and power of the landscape. Building up layers of paint is like feeling for the substance of visual reality, layer upon layer of depth from solid shadow through to refracted light and surface shine. Beyond that, I also try to express the magic or earth energy, the essence, or resonance of a place, a stone, a tree. I look for the symmetries & similarities of patterns, the inherent fractals of growth & movement, and emphasise these. For the paintings to have a strong visual, emotional & spiritual impact, I paint with meticulous detail & in a heightened and intensified manner.

Earth Magic – Sarah Vivian & Izumi Omori
Art
of beauty for the soul
Morvah Schoolhouse Gallery - 6th April to 18th April 2008
This is the second exhibition that Izumi and Sarah have held together; their
work is very different but linked by a mutual love of the spirit and beauty of
nature. The grace and power of the natural world is their inspiration and the
source of their spirituality, their outlook and their art.
“Earth Magic” explores themes of beauty and magic in the natural world.
Izumi’s work features the magic of growth, the miracle of flowers and the life
of the trees and hedgerows, alive with bees & insects. Her paintings shimmer
with light and living energy, capturing transitory moments of many-layered life
and growth in layers of paint & texture. They have both strength and delicacy; a
blending of Cornish elements with Japanese style and sensitivity. Izumi’s
paintings grow into existence by a process of building up & paring down,
allowing the paint to speak & develop as it needs.
Sarah’s work features the magic times when we are the most aware of the spirit
of the land and closest to the elements; night-time with bonfires and the power
of the full moon, golden evening light glinting on wet sand or sending purple
shadows across the landscape, idyllic summer afternoon jewel-like colours of sea
and shore. Sarah’s paintings are intensely detailed & hyper-real, glowing with
the depth & vivid colour of many layers of oil paint, carefully structured and
planned for visual impact.
Sarah and Izumi believe that art of beauty is food for the soul; both strive
to put into paint their connection to the spiritual in nature. For many people
the beauty of nature is their source of inspiration, nurture & healing, and so
too are paintings which express this beauty, whether it be representational of
specific times and places as in Sarah’s work, or whether it be an imaginative
blending of elements as in Izumi’s work. Their paintings, shown together, offer
an experience of beauty and spirit.
Both Sarah and Izumi offer cards and prints of their work as well as the
originals. For more information on Sarah or Izumi, please visit their websites –
