Dear Sue,
You may remember that I sent you an email in September last year to ask advice
about a young boy I was teaching. I couldn't get him to play with
both bow and left hand fingers working correctly.
You sent me a reply extremely quickly, and since then I have put into practice
all the tips you provided. I just wanted to let you know that I
have seen a dramatic change in the way Robert plays now. He is very
musical I believe, and seems to have a gifted ear. With your help, he now
happily plays with the bow, without a thought. I also tried to file his
bridge down to a better shape. Although I didn't feel particularly
confident doing this, I think it helped him to avoid hitting two strings at
once. He certainly seems more comfortable. It is delightful to see
him playing away happily as he is so incredibly enthusiastic about the violin,
and I would have hated him to be put off it.
Thank you once again for all your help. I really do appreciate it.
Perhaps I shall need more tips in the future, but in the meantime I shall
continue to read your monthly tips web page!
Yours sincerely, with all best wishes
John Thompson
